Diwali is one of the most prominent and widely enthusiastically celebrated national festival of lights. Many believe to light their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects them from the spiritual darkness. However, while celebrating, we often burn crackers that creates massive amounts of noise and air pollution and with the ongoing pandemic this just adds fuel to the fire. For those who are affected by the coronavirus disease, exposure to pollution increases the severity of COVID-19. The air pollution further blemishes the already damaged lungs and the noise pollution disturbs those who are already facing a tough time. So it is high time for us to pause for a moment and be empathetic towards those in pain and suffering. We must avoid or consciously reduce the use of firecrackers and embrace the meaning of this festival of spreading love.
