St. Lucy

Written by Jinisha Setiya

St. Lucy, the painting, by the Italian painter Francesco Zaganelli is a huge symbol in art. In the painting, she is holding a green palm leaf which represents that she was a saint and she died on the basis of her religious beliefs. She was a martyr and was shown to be holding eyes in her paintings as she was a great associate for the protection of people’s eyesight. The eyes were also made to give an allusion to her name. She was an attribute and she died in a widespread persecution of Christians under the Roman emperor Diocletian. She was the person who people looked up to and were inspired by, but her opinions were not respected by the evils of the society. Therefore, we should respect each one’s opinions and beliefs and we shall protect anyone, especially the ones who inspire other people, who are in danger from the people who don’t believe in respecting each other’ choices
