Addressing xenophobia

The Problem We All Live With, a picture by Norman Rockwell, is a direct response to racism in America and the commonality of the people afflicted by these detrimental policies. The painting depicts an African-American girl being taken to elementary school by four US marshals, who walked in front of the protesters in New Orleans in 1960. Racist graffiti, restricted freedom of movement, and school segregation were all realities in the American south in the 1960s, prompting the artist to speak out against it and create this significant and influential political work
